Firstly, if possible mow the area down quite low, but still ensure you leave a little leaf left roughly 2-3 days prior to top dressing.
Next you will need some dressing mix. We recommend our Top Dress Mix which is made up of very fine sand, and aged chicken manure. It is very easy to spread and water in. Alternatively, if you prefer a straight sand to top dress with, we recommend our Fine Washed Pit Sand.
The size of the area you need to cover will determine the quantity of
Top Dress Mix you will need. If you have your measurements we are happy to help
you work out how much you need.
Spread this out, thinly, over your lawn area. 5-10mm at a time is ideal.
To achieve a perfect level, you can use one our soil spreaders and gently go
over the lawn and work the Top Dress Mix in, being mindful of the levels you
desire.
Important tip –
Don’t bury the turf. The trick is to do it a few times lightly and after you lay the Top
Dress Mix the leaf must be sticking through. If you bury the turf under a full
cover of Top Dress Mix, you run the risk of killing it. Spread it lightly, let
it grow in and settle for a week, then you can repeat the process. You can
repeat this as many times as you like until you achieve your desired result.
Also for an added boost, you can use fertilising products such as Eco
88, Organic Extra or Turf Master when you top dress.
